A chiropractic care center is like any other medical office in many ways. Most people choose a particular practice and continue to return for further adjustments and exams, but you needn’t feel like you’re locked in forever. Beyond the comfort of familiarity and the convenience of having your records on file, there’s nothing keeping you at any one practice.
Switching chiropractors, like switching doctors or dentists, is a very personal decision. There are many reasons why a patient might decide to seek treatment elsewhere. But occasionally, the red flags are difficult to spot, especially for those new to the practice. Wirth Chiropractic is here with a few common signs that you may want to start looking for a new chiropractor.
- Dubious Accreditation. Most chiropractors have their accreditation displayed prominently in the office. If you can’t find it, or the chiropractor is seemingly unable to produce it when asked, then proceed with caution. You should avoid an unaccredited practice at all costs.
- Lack of Clear Goals. A chiropractor should be guiding patients toward some kind of achievable goal. Whether that’s less pain, improved posture, or better spinal health, you deserve to be able to keep track of your progress with observable milestones.
- Pushing Sales. Supplements and other products on display are not necessarily bad in and of themselves. But when a chiropractor uses pressure or scare tactics to get a sale, then you should consider moving on.
- Contracted Appointments. Whether it’s your first appointment or your hundredth, be wary of signing anything placed in front of you. Contractual obligation to a chiropractic practice for a certain period of time or set number of appointments is a big red flag.
- Excessive X-Rays. Most chiropractors use x-rays to check on your progress. But excessive x-rays are unnecessary, and they can be harmful to your body.
- Closed Communication. Be sure that you feel seen and heard during appointments. Your money is going toward quality care, so make sure you are getting the treatment you deserve. Avoid chiropractors that don’t listen to their patients’ needs and only spend a few minutes with them.
- Increase in Pain. Temporary soreness after an adjustment is perfectly normal. A significant increase in long-lasting pain is NOT normal or acceptable. If your symptoms have remained consistent or worsened with time, we recommend finding a new chiropractor immediately.
