A lot of you may already know what Chiropractic is. Some of you may have no idea. Well for those who don’t know much about Chiropractic care it is a health care profession that focuses a lot on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. Chiropractic treatment tends to, but are not limited to, neck pain, back pain, pain to the joints of the arms and legs, and even headaches.
Doctors of chiropractic practice a drug-free, hands on approach to healthcare. Chiropractors are also able to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises. Also, chiropractors can give you a nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle counseling.
One of the most common procedures done by a chiropractor is something called a spinal manipulation, which is also called a chiropractic adjustment. The reason for this procedure is to restore joint mobility by applying a controlled force into the joints that have become tissue injuries. Tissue injuries can be caused by various cases, lifting a heavy object, sitting in a awkward position for a long period of time without good posture, a slip and fall, or even a car accident that has given you whiplash or injured your body in some way. Injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that causes inflammation, pain, and diminished function. Performing an adjustment restores mobility, which will alleviate some of the pain and muscle tightness which will then allow the tissues to heal.
After an adjustment you may have a little bit of soreness or may become achy but in about 12 to 48 hours it should ease off. Chiropractic adjustment hardly ever causes discomfort.
Doctors of chiropractic may assess patients through clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine whether chiropractic treatment is necessary.
