This week I want to talk to you about food. It is important to remember that chiropractors did go through standard medical training so we aren’t just spouting off random information when we tell you what you should and should not eat. Chiropractors have extensive knowledge of most parts of medicine, just like your general practitioner or family doctor would. The staff here at Wirth are more than certified to speak about diet, exercise, and all of the other words that many of us don’t want to hear on a day to day basis.
With things like Valentine’s Day coming up, it is important to remember that just because all of that candy will soon be on sale doesn’t mean you need to buy it. There is nothing wrong with a little chocolate every now and then, but too much is dangerous. The same goes for basically any other type of food, even something that seems healthy like fruits and vegetables. You need to have a balance in regards to what food you eat just like everything else in your life. While this is difficult to do, especially if you have someone buying you sweets, you should remember that a little goes a long way. If you are trying to lose weight that you gained during the winter, it is especially important not to overindulge just because the chocolate will be discounted.
Food is one of those tricky things that we need to sit down and examine our relationship with. Do you find yourself snacking often even though you really don’t feel hungry? If so, then try drinking a glass of water instead. You may simply be slightly dehydrated. If you find yourself struggling to finish everything on your plate, allow yourself smaller portions. You should always eat until you are full but not until you are stuffed. This is a difference that many people don’t realize exists, but being conscious of the change can have incredible results if you are trying to lose weight.
Food is often a touchy subject and is different for every person. It is something that we cannot give a “one size fits all” solution to, so the next time you come in be sure to mention your concerns to us. We will be more than happy to help you achieve your goals of being a healthier person, even if it doesn’t involve chocolate.
