Now that the summer is here, many of you will likely be thinking about vacations. Whether this means driving around, taking a bus, or flying to a distant location, you may want to think about how to make it easy on yourself. After all, traveling can be very uncomfortable depending on how it is done. Here are some tips on how to make sure that you arrive to your destination without feeling like you want to sleep the rest of your vacation away.
1. Stretch. Stretching is one of the most important things that you can do in almost any situation. While it may be difficult depending on your travel method, you should always at least make an attempt to stretch before you start on your journey. If you are driving, make a couple of stops along the way to stretch and get out of the car. You can also stretch your toes and other muscles while you are driving to help prevent cramping. Always make sure that you have stretched before and after you travel.
2. Be Comfortable. One of the most dangerous things that you can do to your body while traveling is not be comfortable. If you are the one driving, make sure that your seat is in the right position before you set out. Move your hand position on the steering wheel so that your arms do not get fatigued. If you are flying, make sure that you have a little bit of room so that you can get into a good position. Always try and get a pillow or rolled up blanket to rest in the small of your back no matter how you are traveling to keep your posture correct.
3. Bag Weight. Make sure that all of your bags are light enough for you to easily carry. If you are flying, it is suggested that you check any bags more than ten percent of your body weight. If you are driving, make sure that you will be able to easily lift and carry them once you get to your destination. Having a couple extra bags will be worth the comfort once you get there.
