This week, I wanted to focus on different studies that have been done over the past decade that show that chiropractic care does indeed help some people. While not everyone believes in chiropractic care, there is also no proof that shows it as “fake science” or “witch doctor stuff” as I have seen it referred to as. Naturally, we believe that chiropractic care is real care, otherwise we would not suggest it to you. We wouldn’t have spent so much time and money going through medical school if we weren’t sure that it worked and could be used to benefit everyone.
The first study I read to review this week was one from 2008 in Australia. Now, 2008 in science years is quite old, but I found this to be a fascinating account. My family has a trend I suppose where we will develop issues that the doctors cannot figure out the cause of. Due to this, I felt a kinship to this nine year old who had complained of a burning stomach pain for almost two months and had been given different medications to help, which none of them did. While we aren’t entirely sure what caused this pain, we know that after the chiropractic treatment she began to feel better. At the end of the day, isn’t that what really matters?
The second study I read was one very dear to me. All of the women in my family have had problems breastfeeding their children and have felt very guilty for that. Part of me wonders if some of these issues may have been helped by chiropractic care in the same way that it allowed the four week old infant to feed from her mother. We are constantly told that all children should be breastfed, and I think that it is wonderful that chiropractic care allowed this to occur for this child.
While most scientific studies are double blind and need a large sample size, this is difficult to accomplish in chiropractic care. This is for a multitude of reasons, however the main thing to remember is there is nothing wrong with trying this out. If it worked for these two little girls and improved their quality of life, then why shouldn’t you give it a shot as well?
