Do you ever have those days where you wake up and everything seems to creak and crack? Those days can seem eternal, especially before you are able to finally get up out of bed. Sometimes you just have to lay there until you get up enough energy and mental strength to push yourself out of bed because you know it’s going to hurt. Let’s be blunt: those days suck. It is never fun waking up, hoping to feel refreshed, only to have your body betray you. So why does this happen? Well, there are a few reasons.
First, you may have just had a really bad night. Sometimes we don’t sleep well for any number of reasons. Always make sure that you have a good mattress and pillow supporting your body, as this is a leading reason for pain upon waking. Sometimes we toss and turn a lot during the night and this can cause severe discomfort when you wake up. If your mattress and pillow are okay, try setting your thermostat to around sixty or sixty five degrees. Cooler temperatures help a lot of people sleep more soundly. If you are someone who has chronic sleep problems or nightmares, talk to a doctor and see what options you may have open to get a better night’s rest.
While all of this is well and good, it doesn’t help when you wake up in pain. One of the best things that you can do in this situation is lay in bed for a little while before slowly starting to move your joints to loosen them up. If you have the time to do so, stretching out your muscles while you’re still laying down can really help to get you ready for the day. Also, getting into a nice warm shower or bath can help to relax your muscles so always try to do that if you wake up stiff and sore.
