This week I wanted to talk to you about sleep. Sleep is one of the few things that every human needs to survive and there are basically no natural exceptions. Although people may have different sleeping habits or schedules, the fact of the matter is that most people need somewhere around eight hours of sleep a night to be able to function at full capacity. What about people who can’t seem to get that? Many Americans have trouble sleeping and if you are one of those people you may want to follow some of these ideas to see if they help.
Temperature. It is very easy to become overheated or too cold during the night when you are asleep. If you have trouble getting to and staying asleep, try lowering the temperature in your room if possible. You may want to simply open a window to get some fresh air in or you may want to use a fan or air conditioner to help with this.
Pillows. A normal person should be able to sleep with only one pillow, but sometimes medical conditions prevent this from being possible. Try different things with your pillows, including the amount of them and the firmness until you find what works for you. You always want to make sure that your neck and shoulders aren’t being put in any pain by your pillow, as that can wake you up. You can also try one between your knees if you tend to sleep on your side in an attempt to keep your hips level.
No Electronics. This one is the most difficult for many people. It is best if you turn off your cell phones, televisions, and any other electronic device at least an hour before bed. This is because electronics emit a blue light which disrupts the body’s natural sleeping rhythm. While some devices now come with a blue light filter, it is always better to not have any exposure to it and get a good night’s rest. Another thing that you can do to help yourself sleep is come into Wirth Chiropractic. There have been many studies done which show that regular chiropractic treatment can help people who have difficulties sleeping. Come on in today and see how much better you sleep tonight!
