This week I really want to talk about mental health. There have been multiple studies done which show that mental health and physical health are very connected, so here at Wirth we always try and keep our options open to help you with both. While there is no single cure to mental health issues, there are a couple of things that you can try which might help. Here are a few of them.
1. Take Some Time. Most doctors will tell you that you can beat mental health issues by getting up and getting out there, exercising, eating better, and all of the other things that many mental health issues prevent you from wanting to do. As such, we say that you shouldn’t feel bad about taking some time away from everyone and everything else and just doing whatever it is that you need to do. If you need to drive somewhere and scream until you’re exhausted, then go ahead. If you need to sit in your room and listen to music, you do that! As long as your activity is not hurting yourself or someone around you, you should never feel bad about taking some time to yourself.
2. Escape. Whatever this means to you, feel free to do it. If that means you need to take a day trip into the woods, go ahead. If you escape by reading corny fantasy books, you do just that. If you need to sit there and play some video games for a little while to get away from whatever is bothering you in the real world, then more power to you! Sometimes we all need a little escape.
3. Baby Steps. If your mental health has prevented you from doing things around the house and you feel overwhelmed, remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Even if all you can manage today is washing one dish or folding a couple of clothes, then that’s fine. Taking baby steps until everything is done is the perfect way of making sure that you don’t have a relapse.
Although we are not mental health professionals, we do often see people who have mental health issues come through our office. Here at Wirth Chiropractic, in Greenville NC, we know that there is no shame in needing help and we will do everything we can to make you feel like yourself again.
