Kids are extremely active. Sometimes we wonder how they do it, or how we did it at their age. It’s hard to keep up with them when they’re healthy, but what happens when they get hurt? Watching your child in pain is one of the worst things in the world. Any parent will tell you that if they could take away their child’s pain, they would. Not every parent has the ability, though. That’s where doctors come in. While some parents take their kids to a primary care doctor, very often the primary doctor can’t do much other than give the child pain medication or tell them to work through it until it goes away. Neither option listed above is really ideal, and so where is a parent to turn?
Chiropractic care is a non-invasive and drug free child friendly practice for children with all kinds of different problems. Sports injuries are one of the most common problems with highly active kids and can, if left untreated, cause pain or problems for the rest of the child’s life. Chiropractic care can be, and often is, modified for children and can help keep their musculoskeletal system healthy and aligned correctly.
According to a study done in 2009 by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), research began to show that “…chiropractic can help children not only with typical back and neck pain complaints, but also with issues as varied as asthma, chronic ear infections, nursing difficulties, colic, and bedwetting”. Since that study, there have been many cases which are documented that have shown that chiropractic care can help things in children ranging from speech disorders to some symptoms of Cerebral Palsy. Although there is more research that needs to be done into these claims, the possibility of non-invasive improvement for these disorders is extremely promising and does give a lot of hope to many parents raising special needs children.
Before you bring your child in to a chiropractor’s office, let their primary doctor know that you are thinking of using this care. Also, call ahead to the office of the chiropractor you are expecting to use. Some offices specialize in pediatric chiropractic work, but almost all offices will accept children for adjustments. Call your local chiropractor and get an appointment for your child today!
