Sometimes we just feel really crappy and we can’t figure out why. This can be physical, mental, or emotional, but whatever kind of crappy it is, we still know it stinks. Of course we don’t want to feel this way, but sometimes we just can’t seem to shake it. Here are some ideas of how to try and combat that lousy feeling we all sometimes get.
1. Take A Shower. I’m not saying you’re smelly, but it has been shown that taking a hot shower or bath can help to make you feel better. It relaxes your muscles and can help you think though any problems you may be having. Good hygiene is something that is recommended to focus on when you are having a bad mental health day and it has been shown that many people who suffer from mental illness will take longer hot showers. Sometimes you need to indulge that. Try making a steam square out of eucalyptus oil or other aromatherapy substances to relax yourself even more.
2. Indulge A Little. This may mean eating that last piece of chocolate cake you were saving until Friday or listening to some of your favorite music, but indulge a little. Watching your guilty pleasure show is always a good idea, and believe me, no one will judge you for being curled up in your pajamas eating popcorn while you do it. Maybe you want to yell at the television? Go ahead and do that too. Better the screen than a real life person who you may hurt. Curl up with a book and drift off into a fantasy world. Anything that is safe for you to do, go ahead and feel free to.
3. Watch Cat Videos. It has been scientifically proven that watching cute animal videos helps to lower our blood pressure and calm us down. It has also been shown that the purring of a cat may have healing properties, so don’t feel bad if you want to watch seven hours of cat videos. It’s all for your health!
Life can get really overwhelming sometimes. That’s why we need to stick together and help each other out when something can get to be a bit much. Don’t feel bad if you need to take time for yourself. It’s certainly healthier than the alternative. Come on into Wirth if you think we can help!
