During the summer, there are a couple of things that we need to worry about that aren’t really an issue during any other season of the year. While I wish that I could just say extreme temperatures, we know that this isn’t true. After all, the winter can have some pretty nasty numbers, only on the other end of the spectrum. While winter presents its own issues in regards to health and keeping your body temperature in the right area, many people argue that winter is easier to deal with due to the ability to bundle up more. In the summer, however, there is only so much that you can take off and that doesn’t always solve the issue.
Heat exhaustion is a serious medical issue that many people experience every year. Those who are more at risk include children and the elderly, as their bodies don’t regulate temperature as well as those who are of a moderate age. Also, depending upon other health issues, some people may be more susceptible. If you are a caretaker to someone who is non-verbal or who has a mental health or developmental disorder which prevents their ability to voice problems, you should also keep close watch for heat exhaustion. Here are some of the symptoms that you may see.
– Muscle Cramps and Aches
– Fatigue
– Excessive Thirst
– Dizziness
– Nausea
– Headache
– Fainting
– Agitation
– Cold Sweats
– Slow or Weak Heartbeat
– Anxiety
– Confusion
While not all of these symptoms will present themselves in each person, it is still extremely important to remember them until you know how someone does react to excessive heat. If you believe that someone may be developing heat exhaustion, you should immediately get fluids into them as well as getting them to a cooler area. Also, getting them medical attention is absolutely imperative. Heat illnesses are nothing to mess around with or delay getting them help regarding.
Here at Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville NC, we do have chiropractic doctors but at the end of the day, we are still a doctor’s office. What we really care about is your health.
