Chiropractic is a holistic wellness practice. The adjustments and therapies that occur during a patient’s regularly scheduled appointment are an important part of the process, but there’s more to living a healthy life. Often, the most influential work occurs in the days and weeks between appointments.
Chiropractic encourages patients to adapt a healthy lifestyle. While your wellness journey may begin in the chiropractor’s office, it’s up to you to carry some of these good habits and core values into your own life. And, of course, our team at Wirth Chiropractic will be here to guide you and answer any questions you may have.
Not sure where to start? Let’s take a look at some tips to building a healthy lifestyle.
Exercise
An active body is a healthy body. Stretch once or twice per day to loosen your muscles and encourage good posture. Experts recommend at least 30 minutes of exercise per day, whether strength training or aerobic. Building your core muscles is the best way to keep your body safe and secure. These muscles support your spine, and more support means better posture.
Nutrition
What you eat has a direct impact on your body and its performance. A healthy diet is made up of all the food groups, including fruits, vegetables, grains, meats, and dairy products. Proportions depend on factors like age, weight, sex, and activity level, so be sure to consult your chiropractor regarding dietary specifics. Also, drink water to keep yourself hydrated. Men need roughly 15.5 cups per day, and women need 11.5 cups.
Posture
We tend to do a lot of sitting throughout our days: sitting in the car, sitting at a desk job, sitting on the couch at home, etc. If you tend to be more sedentary, it’s critical that you check your posture from time to time. Make sure that your back is supported, that you’re sitting up straight, that your shoulders and neck are back, and whatever you’re viewing is at eye level. Moreover, consider getting up and walking around every 45–60 minutes.
Sleep
Sleep is a big part of overall health. Finding a pillow that fits the shape of your neck, using a mattress that supports your back, and creating a peaceful sleeping environment are all essential factors that go into a good night’s sleep. Turn off the devices at least 30 minutes before bed to avoid blue-light exposure, and find a sleeping position that works for you.
