Well I’m sure you can imagine why I’m writing this article right now. Yep, that’s right! I have a headache. You may very well have one while reading this. In fact, nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. While it is true that some people are much worse off than others, we all know what it feels like to get a headache out of seemingly nowhere. What can we do to help prevent them? Well, there are quite a few little tips to help get rid of those nasty pains.
Most headaches have triggers. This means that something causes them, and sometimes we don’t even notice it. It may be noise, a certain food or drink, a smell, the possibilities are seemingly endless. If you do know what causes you headaches, then obviously avoiding them as much as possible is a good idea. Even just standing up and taking a break from the cause can help. Sometimes this isn’t possible, but it’s always nice when it is.
Many times, headaches are caused by something we don’t even notice. If your bottom teeth touch your top teeth often, this may be a cause of headaches. This is because even if it doesn’t feel it, you are holding a small amount of tension in your jaw which can lead to headaches and different TMJ disorders. I personally have this problem a lot, so I sometimes stick the tip of my tongue in between both sets of my teeth for a few moments until I can get my jaw to relax.
One of the most common causes of headaches is actually the easiest to prevent. Dehydration is a terrible problem all over the world, but for many of us who are fortunate enough to have ready access to clean water it seems almost silly. Drink your full eight glasses a day and see if that helps cut down on the amount of headaches you have in a week.
Many of our headaches come from stress and tension that builds up in the body. For this, there is nothing better for you to do than to come to Wirth and see what a spinal manipulation can do. It has been shown time and time again that an adjustment can help to stop headaches and migraines. If you suffer from these, come in and let us try to help you.
