Now that it is almost Halloween, there are a few things that many of us start thinking about. One of those things for me is when that bulk candy is going to go on sale. I know that I shouldn’t, but I just have such a weakness for Kit-Kat bars, you know? We all have that one treat that we just can’t say no to, but unfortunately those treats can turn on us. As with anything, moderation is key and these big bags of candy are not different. If you have poor self-control around Halloween, here are a couple of tips that you may want to follow to avoid any tricks.
1. Buy For Others. One thing I have found that works for me is I only buy candy that I don’t like. Things like malted milk balls and caramel candies are my least favorite so that is what I buy the most of. That means that I am not really tempted to eat any of the candy as it sits their waiting for the kids that will drive their parents nuts all night on their sugar high. Sometimes I will buy a small bag of things I like, but the majority of candy is not for me. Granted this only helps if there is candy you aren’t a fan of.
2. Buy Late. Although it may be a little bit more expensive, it may be in your best interest to buy the majority of your Halloween candy a day or two before so that it isn’t sitting in your house and tempting you the entire time. This not only helps you to cut back on your own intake, but also makes sure that you will have enough for all of the kids that may show up. Not much is worse than running out of candy half way through the night and knowing that there are still kids out there looking for some.
