This week, I really wanted to talk to you about getting outside and exercising. Now that the weather is warming up, you are really going to want to take advantage of the time we will have outside before fall and winter are upon us once again. It always happens sooner than we think it will. Getting outside is great for many people because it allows them to breathe fresh air and absorb some Vitamin D that we may have been denied during the winter when we don’t want to be outside as much.
First, I talked about getting outside and gardening. While this is not a high impact exercise, it is really good for those who cannot exercise extensively while not tiring them out quickly. It not only lets you dig around in the dirt like you used to as a child, but it also helps to make your little area of the world even prettier. Depending on what you are planting, you may even be able to start growing your own fruits and vegetables. There isn’t much like going out into your garden and grabbing a fresh cucumber or tomato to use for lunch, or grab some fresh rosemary and sage to season your chicken with. It’s always great to see what you can grow.
I also talked about how to exercise outside with your children. I know that being a parent often means that you will take any break possible to sit and relax, but remember that your kids are only this small once. It is wonderful to spend time with them when they are younger even if it’s just to hear their view of the world while it is still so young and innocent and full of wonder. It is also good for you to exercise and children lead by example, so you can impart a lifelong love of the outdoors and exercise to them at a young age.
I hope that you all have a wonderful summer with your friends and family. Here at Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville NC, we know how important mental health is to physical health and being outside and exercising can help both, especially if you are with people you care about.
