This week I really wanted to make sure that we talked about sleep. Now that it is around the holidays, there always seems like there is so much to do and so little time in which we can do it. This is why sleep is so incredibly important. If you get a good night’s rest, you should be able to get up and face the day instead of dreading it and hoping for a few more hours under your covers. Here were some of the tips that we mentioned to help you get better sleep this season.
1. Dark Rooms Are The Best. Although many people aren’t fans of the dark, having little to no light in your bedroom is the best way to make sure that your body isn’t distracted while you are trying to get to sleep. This is especially true when it comes to any electronics like televisions or cell phones. These give off blue light which disrupt the body’s natural sleep cycle so be sure to shut them off about an hour before you try to sleep.
2. Be Comfortable. While this may seem like an obvious tip, we mean in every manner. Make sure that your room is a comfortable temperature, have a mattress that is comfortable to sleep on and pillows that support your head without being too firm. Nothing will mess up your sleep like an overheating body or an uncomfortable bed. Make sure that you are cozy in your pajamas, whatever they may be, and that you don’t have to use the bathroom and are not going to bed hungry. If you tend to have indigestion at night, take some antacids and speak to your doctor about this, as this may also be something that is keeping you up during the night. Be sure to be comfortable and sleep should come a little easier.
If you are having trouble sleeping, come into Wirth Chiropractic for a spinal adjustment and see if that helps at all. You may also want to look into having a sleep study done to see if the issue is deeper than just your pillow or the television being left on. Hopefully you will come in the next time nice and refreshed!
