This week I want to talk to you about food. Now you may be wondering what a chiropractor would know about food, but chiropractors went to medical school before going to additional training and classes to learn the chiropractic part of their practice. This means that chiropractors have extensive knowledge of most parts of medicine, just like your general practitioner or family doctor would. Chiropractors are more than certified to speak about diet, exercise, and all of the other words that many of us don’t want to hear on a day to day basis.
Food is obviously an important part of every person’s life. You need food to survive, but too much food is also dangerous. This is why we take eating disorders so seriously here at Wirth. Anyone who doesn’t eat enough, eats too much, or purges their body of food they have already eaten needs to get medical help to try and build toward a healthy relationship with food. Unfortunately, many Americans don’t have that healthy balance whether they have a classified eating disorder or not. There are many economic, geographic, and even societal reasons for this, but it is something to be conscious of. Even if you don’t believe that you have an eating disorder, you may want to take a hard look at how you interact with food.
For example, do you eat sometimes because there’s nothing else to do? Do you find yourself snacking often even though you really don’t feel hungry? If this sounds like you, then try drinking a glass of water instead. You may simply be slightly dehydrated. If you find yourself struggling to finish everything on your plate, then allow yourself smaller portions. You should always eat until you are full but not until you are stuffed. This is a difference that many people don’t realize exists, but being conscious of the change can have incredible results if you are trying to lose weight.
The relationship we have with food is complicated and different for every person. It is something that we cannot give a “one size fits all” solution to, so the next time you come in for an adjustment be sure to mention it to us. We will be more than happy to help you achieve your goals of being a healthier person. Schedule your appointment now at Wirth Chiropractic for some easy medical advice!
