This week I wanted to talk to you about doing what feels “good” vs doing what feels “right”. There are thousands of online articles and similar media that will tell you what you need to do in order to be healthy. While it isn’t a bad idea to read up on some things, it is important to take them with a grain of salt. After all, not everything that was once condoned as healthy has actually been healthy. Think of the fact that cocaine was once considered perfectly safe or that people used to think that cigarettes were healthy. Not everything that is said to be healthy is necessarily the best thing for you.
When trying to lose weight or lead a healthier life, we often want to do the easiest thing or do something that will give us instant gratification. If there was ever a time we shouldn’t do this, it is in regards to our health. If being healthy was easy, then we would be able to head to the corner store every day and be just fine. We wouldn’t have to check the ingredients list on the back of our food. We wouldn’t have to make time to exercise. Sadly, it isn’t easy and there is no such thing as instant gratification when it comes to our health. We can’t just eat a protein bar and say we are healthy, so why do we convince ourselves we can?
One of the biggest things that we tell people when they are trying to lead healthier lives is to do what feels right and avoid what doesn’t. This doesn’t mean avoid exercising because your muscles hurt afterwards, but if something doesn’t feel right or it like it’s helping, then don’t do it. Exercise a bit of common sense while you are exercising your body and think, “Do I really think that this new fad diet is safe and working like I was told it would?” You might be surprised what you realize when you step back and look at a habit logically.

Feels Good vs. Feels Right
