There is a lot of confusion around the medical concept of chiropractic care. We understand this and really do hope to clear some of the common misconceptions up, so we will be running a couple of articles with questions that we normally hear and their answers. If you have other questions, you can either send them in or come in and ask them yourself.
What Is Chiropractic? According to the American Chiropractic Association, “Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health.” This means that pains, aches, and other issues that can be attributed to your joints, bones, muscles, or nerves can be treated by a chiropractic doctor.
How Does Chiropractic Care Work? Chiropractic care uses a form of natural body manipulation to release the stress that we all naturally hold in our bodies. It also allows people to realign their bones into the proper positions, which can easily be moved around and may cause pain or other issues through day to day life. This is done without the use of medications, needles, or surgery. That isn’t to say, however, that chiropractors don’t believe in getting you these things if you do need them. Chiropractors simply look for alternatives before turning to these options.
Is A Chiropractor A Doctor? This is probably the one that we hear most often. Chiropractors are most definitely doctors despite what some people on the internet may say. In fact, chiropractors go to medical school like a standard doctor and then take extra training in chiropractic medicine. This means that they generally go to school longer than many other doctors. Most chiropractors display their medical degrees in their offices just in case you really are concerned.
So It’s Just School? That’s It? No, actually. Chiropractors must meet continuing medical education requirements each year after they have received their medical license. There are many more questions that we want to go through with you, so come back soon and see if we have answered one of yours.
