This week I want to talk about doing the little things. Sometimes the little things can add up to the point where you are so overwhelmed you just want to stay in bed and take a nap instead. This is something that almost all of us go through and is nothing to be ashamed of. We just want you to know that there are ways to get past this and here are some of our favorites.
1. Make A List. Making a list may seem counterproductive because then you see the enormous amount of things that need to get done. Some people color code things to make it seem a little better. For example, all of the things that can be done in less than half an hour can be in blue. The things that need to get done quickly should be in red. Things that can be done on your way home from work can be put in green. Check off or cross out items once they are done and even give yourself a little treat once a whole color block is done. Having a list is actually extremely helpful.
2. Motivation Techniques. One of my favorite tactics is using motivational techniques. For example, there is a documentary on Netflix that I really want to watch but won’t let myself until my work for the day is done. Using small things to reward yourself is actually one of the best ways to make sure things are done. Just be careful about using food or sweets as a reward, especially if you are trying to get yourself to go to the gym.
3. Talk It Out. Talking about how overwhelmed you are to a friend or family member is something that many people do but don’t think about it as a helpful tool. Sometimes just explaining why you are so stressed can help. You should never keep things in if they really bother you and this is no exception.
Another thing that helps is just getting out of bed in the morning. That is always the first step and if that’s all you can accomplish for the day then at least you know that you tried. If you can get to Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville NC, though, perhaps an adjustment may give you the pain relief and motivation you need to start tackling that list. Come in and give it a try!
