This week I want to talk to you about diet. It can be hard to keep a diet through the winter, but it can be even tougher to switch back to one if you failed it during the colder months. If you decided that a diet was not for you when it was snowing outside, then I really can’t blame you but I also know how difficult it can make the summer. Here are a few ways that you can easily slip back into a diet with minimal heartache.
1. Wean Yourself Off. Some foods are just downright addictive. If you have ever tried to take something like cheese away from a group of people, there will probably be at least one who looks like you just told them they can’t have a puppy. If you have a food like that, then try treating it like you would another addiction and slowly reduce the amount that you eat until you don’t have any on a regular basis anymore. This will make it less likely for you to crave a cheat meal with it than if you quit cold turkey.
2. Have A Group. If you have a few friends that want to diet as well, try and keep in close contact with them. You don’t even have to be on the same diet, but having the emotional support of a friend group to help keep you in check can do wonders for your willpower. It also helps to give you some purpose if you are holding someone else accountable for what they eat.
3. Keep A Journal. Although it may be tedious, keeping a journal of what you eat can really help you realize just how much you put into your body. This is especially true if you don’t eat the traditional “three meals a day” and either have one or two big meals or if you snack consistently during the day. Seeing how much and when you eat can help you identify what you need to change and make it easier to do so.
