Have you ever been exercising when you suddenly feel something pull the wrong way and then realize your back hurts? It really does stink, doesn’t it? It’s almost like your body has betrayed you. I mean, here you are trying to help it and make it stronger or thinner or healthier in general and there it goes deciding to hurt you when all you were trying to do was make it better. It just isn’t right, I tell you. So what’s a person to do if they’ve hurt their back while exercising?
The first thing you should do is lay down. Find a way to lay that is comfortable and allows you to gently stretch out, preferably on something soft like a couch or a bed. Breathe deeply as you do so and relax your muscles as much as possible. As with any other injury, try to alternate heat and cold to reduce any swelling you may be experiencing and to ease your pain levels. Remember to take things easy for a bit, as you don’t want to aggravate the injury even more.
If the pain is anything more than minor, go and see a doctor as soon as possible. You will want to make sure that nothing serious was done, such as pinching a nerve, crushing a disk, or causing damage to a tendon. Your back is nothing to take chances with, as it is such a delicate area of the body. Even if your pain does seem to be minimal, make sure to back off of any strenuous activity so that if the pain does become worse you know that it isn’t because of something else you have done. If this is impossible due to work, then be sure to invest in a back brace and wear it as much as you can.
You should also come into Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville NC, and see how much a spinal adjustment can help. It’s fully possible that you simply tweaked something small in your back and it needs to be put back where it belongs. This is exactly what an adjustment can do for you. We will also be able to tell you if you should pursue other treatment through another doctor. Come in and make sure that you can get back to exercising as soon as possible!
