November is the time of the year when the holiday craze really begins. We are always thinking about the next big day where we have to travel, see family, or get things to present to those we care about. Although this time of the year is meant to be happy and exciting, it often just becomes stressful. Very often, those of us who are stressed will turn to food to make ourselves feel better. This also rarely means good food like fruits and veggies. Generally we will find “comfort food” to deal with that stress and there is never a shortage of that around this time of the year.
When Thanksgiving starts to roll around, we tend to throw all of our hard work out the window in regards to diet and exercise. There is so much to do in such a short amount of time that it’s often easier to heat up those fatty leftovers or grab some fast food on the way between holiday shopping errands. We highly suggest trying to start your holiday preparations early so that you can avoid these issues. My mother always bought a couple of things for everyone each month of the year and started her cards in September so that they were ready and sent well before they needed to be.
While traveling, it is often difficult to have a set meal plan like you can at home. If you find yourself in this situation, don’t feel bad about not eating like you normally would. It happens and there’s nothing wrong with having a couple of days where you don’t follow your diet plan to the letter. The important thing is that you don’t make a habit out of bad eating. Once you get back home, be sure to put yourself back into the routine that you have or maybe even start a better one.
Thanksgiving often brings people anxiety, especially in regards to family and food. Take a deep breath and try to remember that one day doesn’t mean that you aren’t doing well with your diet.
